The Forming Methods of Glass Bottles and Containers
The forming methods of glass products can be categorized into artificial forming and mechanical forming.
The artificial forming is a relatively primitive forming method. But it is still used in the forming of some special glass products such as glass instruments. The most commonly used artificial forming method is the hand-blown method. The operator works with a hollow blowpipe. The operator dips an end of the hollow blowpipe in the molten glass and blows the molten glass into the desired glass products. The operator should have rich experience and skilled operating practices.
The dominant mechanical forming has made the forming of glass products mechanized. The common used methods of mechanical forming are as following:
1) Pressing method
The glass mold for the pressing method is composed of the mold, punch and concave mold. It can produce solid and hollow glass products such as glass brick, lenses, television picture tube panel and cone, heat resistant tableware, cups, ashtrays, etc.. Its advantage is the precise shape of the products. It can produce products with patterns on the outside surface. Its process is simple and has a high production capacity.
2) Blowing method
The blowing methods can be divided into pressing-blowing method, blowing-blowing method.
The characteristics of the pressing-blowing method is to first form the mouth and embryonic form in the parison mold and then move it into the forming mold and blow it into the products.
The characteristics of the blowing-blowing method is to first form the mouth and embryonic form in the parison mold and then move the parison mold into the forming mold and blow it into the products. It is mainly used to produce small-mouth jars.
